Countering plagiarism
The editorial board of Professional Art Education regards plagiarism as a violation of copyright and academic integrity.
Before peer review, all manuscripts are checked for text similarity with the licensed StrikePlagiarism system (service agreement with Plagiat LLC No. 78/25 of 3 September 2025).
The similarity report is assessed by the editor, who looks not only at the percentage of matches but also at whether borrowed text is properly quoted and referenced. If unattributed borrowed text exceeds 20%, the manuscript is considered to contain plagiarism. Depending on the nature of the borrowing, the editors:
- return the manuscript to the author for revision (isolated unattributed quotations, technical citation errors);
- reject the manuscript (substantial unattributed borrowing, duplication of previously published work); the author is informed of the reason and, in serious cases, so is the author’s institution;
- if plagiarism is detected after publication, apply the Article Retraction Procedure.
How to avoid plagiarism
- put text taken word for word in quotation marks and mark omitted parts of a quotation with an ellipsis;
- limit the use of direct quotations;
- reference the source of every borrowed statement, idea or piece of data;
- paraphrase other authors’ ideas in your own words, again with a reference to the source;
- obtain permission to reproduce illustrations, tables and figures by other authors and state the source under each of them.
Self-plagiarism (reusing one’s own published text without reference) is also unacceptable. Fragments of one’s own previous work may be used only to a limited extent and with a reference to it.
