Abstract

The purpose of the study: to identify the means of artistic and visual interpretation of the social issues of feminism in fashion design and to determine the possibilities of using them as a conceptual basis for an original clothing collection.

Methods: analysis and synthesis of scholarly sources, comparative and stylistic analysis of designer collections, the method of artistic and visual interpretation of social issues through fashion design, and sketch design.

Scientific novelty: approaches to transforming the social issues of feminism into artistic and constructive costume solutions are specified, and their potential for shaping the concept of a contemporary clothing collection is identified; the relationship between social phenomena, their causes, and the means of their visual interpretation in fashion design is systematized.

Results: the ways in which feminist issues are represented in contemporary fashion design are analysed. The collections of Dior (M. G. Chiuri), Chanel (K. Lagerfeld), and Celine (P. Philo) reveal different approaches – from a direct textual message to artistic metaphor and the rethinking of the female image through cut and style. Using workplace gender inequality and internalised misogyny as examples, the means of their artistic interpretation are identified through silhouette, form, construction lines, proportions, materials, and decorative elements. The systematised solutions were applied in developing sketch proposals for an original clothing collection.

Conclusions: the social issues of feminism can serve as a meaningful basis for a design concept and can be embodied in costume not through literal representation but through a system of associative artistic, visual, and constructive means. This approach makes it possible to combine social meaning with form development and the creation of a coherent collection image.
